Landscape Design & Installation in Huntsville & Madison, AL

Beds, borders, plantings, and sod planned as one cohesive yard — not a collection of impulse buys from the garden center. Turf Titans designs around North Alabama's climate and your budget, then installs it ourselves. Licensed, insured, no contracts.

Professionally designed landscape with beds and plantings installed by Turf Titans at a North Alabama home

What's Included

A landscape that works starts before the first plant goes in the ground. We walk the property, look at how water moves and where the sun hits, and design a layout you can actually maintain — then our crew installs it from soil prep to the final layer of mulch.

  • On-site walkthrough to assess sun exposure, drainage, and how you actually use the yard
  • Bed, border, and planting layout designed around your home and budget
  • Plant selection matched to zone 7b heat, humidity, and North Alabama clay soil
  • Sod integration so turf and beds work together as one cohesive yard
  • Full installation — soil amendment, planting, edging, and mulch or pine straw finish
  • Care guidance for the first growing season so new plantings establish properly

Why Big-Box Plants Keep Dying in Huntsville Yards

Most failed landscaping in North Alabama follows the same pattern: a homeowner buys healthy plants, digs a hole, waters faithfully — and the plant is dead by August. The plant was rarely the problem. The hole was.

Huntsville and Madison sit on dense red clay. Dig a neat hole in it, drop in a plant with loose potting soil around the roots, and you have built a clay bowl — water runs into the loose soil, hits the compacted clay walls, and sits there. Roots drown in spring, then bake in the same hardened bowl during an August dry spell. The plant did not need more water or less water. It needed a bed designed for clay.

That is the core of how we design: beds graded so water moves through them, soil amended across the whole bed rather than one hole at a time, and plants chosen because they handle zone 7b's combination of humid summers and wet winters — not because they looked good on a shelf in April.

Designed as one yard, not a collection of projects

The other common failure is a yard assembled piecemeal — a bed added one year, a tree another, sod patched in later — with nothing relating to anything else. We lay out beds, borders, plantings, and turf as a single plan, even if you install it in phases. That is the difference between a yard that looks intentional and one that looks accumulated.

If your project includes new turf, we handle Bermuda and Zoysia sod installation as part of the same plan — and if water is pooling in the yard, grading and resloping comes first, because no design survives bad drainage.

How a Landscape Project Works With Us

No drawn-out proposals and no upselling. We keep the process simple enough that most projects go from first call to finished install within a few weeks.

1. Walk the property together

We look at sun exposure, drainage, existing plants worth keeping, and how you actually use the yard — kids, dogs, entertaining, or just curb appeal. You tell us the budget range and we design to it instead of around it.

2. Get a plan and a real price

A clear layout — what goes where, which plants, what the finished beds and borders look like — with a firm quote. If the full plan is more than you want to spend this season, we break it into phases that still make sense individually.

3. We install it — and tell you how to keep it alive

Our crew preps soil, plants, edges, lays sod where the plan calls for it, and finishes beds with mulch or pine straw. You get watering and first-season care guidance, and if you would rather not maintain it yourself, our landscape maintenance service keeps it looking installed-yesterday year-round.

Landscape Design FAQs

Common questions about landscape design and installation in Huntsville and Madison, Alabama.

How much does landscape design cost in Huntsville, AL?
It depends on the size of the project — a front-yard bed refresh is a very different job than a full-yard design with new sod, borders, and plantings. Turf Titans provides free, no-obligation quotes with a clear price before any work starts. We are honest about what fits your budget and will tell you if a phased approach makes more sense than doing everything at once. Call 256-701-4963 for an estimate.
Do you just design, or do you install too?
Both. We design the layout and then our own crew installs it — beds, borders, plantings, edging, mulch, and sod. Keeping design and installation with one company means nothing gets lost in translation between a plan on paper and what actually goes in the ground.
What plants actually survive in Huntsville's clay soil?
More than you would think, as long as they are chosen and planted correctly. Crape myrtles, azaleas, hollies, loropetalum, hydrangeas, knockout roses, and ornamental grasses all do well in North Alabama when beds are amended and drainage is addressed. What kills plants here is usually not the clay itself — it is water sitting in a clay bowl around the roots. We amend planting holes and grade beds so water moves through instead of pooling.
When is the best time to plant in North Alabama?
Fall is the best planting season for trees and shrubs in zone 7b — roots establish through the mild winter before summer heat arrives. Spring (after the traditional March 31 last-frost date) is second best and is the right window for annual color and warm-season sod. Summer installs are possible but require committed watering. We schedule installations around what gives your specific plants the best start.
Can you redesign just one part of my yard?
Yes. Plenty of our projects are a single front bed, a foundation planting refresh, or fixing one problem area — not a full-yard overhaul. We also design in phases for homeowners who want a master plan but prefer to spread the cost over a couple of seasons.
Do you require a contract for landscaping work?
No. Landscape installation is quoted as a one-time project with a clear price up front. If you want ongoing care for the new landscape afterward, our landscape maintenance service is pay-as-you-go with no long-term agreement.
Do you offer landscape design in Madison, AL?
Yes. Turf Titans designs and installs landscapes throughout Huntsville, Madison, Meridianville, and Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. Call us or fill out our contact form for a free design consultation.
